Holidays + Mastitis

Happy Christmas week to those who are celebrating! ✨🎄 I wanted to drop in here and talk about MASTITIS 🥴

Did you know that starting around thanksgiving through the new year, mastitis is the most common concern we hear about?

Why?! Let’s talk about that! 👀

✨ Longer times between feeds because you’re busy/distracted/out of routine.

➡️ Full breasts + longer time between emptying can = potentially lowered supply, clogs and can lead to the dreaded mastitis.

✨ “Helpful” aunties/grandmas/others assuring you they can “settle your baby” or others wanting to bond through bottle feeding and you being too busy to remove milk if babe is fed elsewhere = ⬆️ back to the full breast scenario.

📢 You can navigate this season and keep yourself healthy and baby’s needs met by remembering a few key things:

🤱🏾Frequent, effective milk removal is the best at keeping you healthy and avoiding discomfort, clogs and potential mastitis.

👩🏼‍🍼 If someone else feeds the babe, you need to move milk to keep body in line with babes needs, and keep yourself from being too full and leading to potential discomforts.

👨‍🍼 Tight clothing is not your friend, underwires and articles of clothing that compress your chest can lead to clogs in those areas that are compressed.

Most importantly - ENJOY YOUR family/friends/people you love. Listen to your intuition because you know your baby best ✨

And happy almost end of 2021 to you and yours 💜

Hi, I’m Angela. I own this little business where I help a lot of parents and babies figure out breastfeeding and life in The Newborn Forest™ I have an almost uncomfortable amount of people “following me around the internet” on Instagram and I have no idea how to use TikTok. Being a friend, advocate and cheerleader to people during the fourth trimester is my soul’s song. I’m glad you’re here.
